The snow is still around but now you can add tons of rain over the weekend. I was informed yesterday afternoon from Carolyn that there was water in the basement. It took 2 full wet/ dry vacs to get it all up. I think we got the water in because of the combination of tons of melting snow and rain. We have had a ton of rain in the past and not gotten any water in the basement so I am not to worried.

Finally go the new BIG cube this week. All the books have been moved out and it’s ready for me to move in. I am waiting for the spools of Cat5 and the outlets to arrive so I can wire the cube since it wasn’t wired when Arora moved into the building. Hopefully will arrive tomorrow so I can do the wiring either Friday or Saturday night. Then I have to figure out the layout. I have a good amount of space (12’x13′), I am hoping to split the cube in half. Half for the desk area and the other half for storage and work area.

Played D&D at Nat and Del’s last night. My character No got the crap kicked out of him again by the rat guys. I just wasn’t rolling good dice last night. I did make it to 2nd level so I hope it allows me to get some better skills. When we were finished the campaign had us on a ship sailing for who knows where.

Well that’s a quick run down on life in my land more later this week I hope.

Blizzard Feb 2003

Wow what a lot of snow. It took me two and a half hour to dig the car out and clear the snow away from the front of the driveway. Luckily my next door neighbor Mike had his truck out and we just filled the back up with the snow and hauled it away. It wouldn’t have been to bad but some moron from up the street abandoned his car right in front of the house about 3 feet from the curb. So the plows went around it and didn’t cut back in till three houses up the street. That meant Mike and I had to dig out about 5 feet of plowed snow from in front of our 2 driveways. We buried the guys car even more then the plows did.

I put some pictures of the house buried in the snow in the gallery check out the drift in front of the up-stair windows.

Wow what a weekend

Well Nat and Del’s wedding was on Friday. We held the reception and had a great time. Some people didn’t make it because of the snow in there area. The Lasagna turned out fabulous…well all the food turned out great. The trays for Dominic’s were a big hit.

But then on Sunday it started to snow and has been upgraded to a Blizzard. The snow has drifted on the roof right up to the windows of the bed room. It looks like we have gotten around 3 feet of snow. We are now sitting around waiting for the snow to end.

Carolyn and I have decided to share the office upstairs so I won’t be stuck in the basement working. So that means I have to start working on getting the room cleaned up and the paneling off the walls and running more electric in the room. At the same time I will drop the CAT5 down the walls from the attic then put up the drywall. That should only take about a month or so.

Reception, Samba-tng what more can you ask for?

Wow it’s been a while. Carolyn and I have been busy working on the house to get ready for Nat and Del’s reception on Friday. It is looking like the menu is locked in. They picked cheese cake for supprise the wedding cake.

Haven’t worked on the Harrisburg server since I thought I would have to have them ship it back to wipe off Linux and install NT becasue Samba dosen’t due domain trusts, but samba-tng just released a version that will do trusts and user manager stuff. So now all I have to do is find some documentation on how to set it up.

Oh yea if you are in the Trenton area check out the slashdot meetup site and vote for a place to meet this month.

Netflix

When we got our DVD player last year I was able to talk my wife into signing up for the DVD rental service Netflix. So far it’s been okay, but when we first signed up the DVDs were coming from the west coast and took 6 days round trip from dropping a watched one and receiving the next movie. Then they opened a distribution center in Queens NY this drooped the wait time to about 4 days.

Then this weekend I noticed that the new return address was right down Rt. 1 in New Brunswick. So as a test I sent a movie back yesterday and I just got confirmation that they received it not more then 20 hours later. This is great this means the turn around time should be 2 days.

Now if they would just open one in the Trenton area I can hand deliver them.

Photos of home

Got some pictures of the house done and up in the gallery here. They are before and after of the living room and kitchen. The kitchen still has to have the cabinets painted white but you can see how much better it looks.

Getting back into the swing of things at work. Going to try and get Samba configured and running on the server in the Harrisburg office. I love the VPN now I can really do stuff remotely. Other then that it looks like a nice work day.

Space Shuttle Columbia

Well the month of February came in with a bang with the explosion of the Space Shuttle Columbia at 9am. Lets all take a moment of silent for the crew of the space shuttle.

Work going well and food to order 1

Wow what a day…got some things actually finished. The VPN project is now all done with the exception of Harrisburg. All the machines at the Corp office can now see and attach to all the satalite offices.

Harrisburg will be on the list late next week once the new server gets up there and I can get samba configured on it.

Nat and Del’s wedding is in 2 weeks and 2 days and I haven’t ordered any of the food yet. Don’t worry guys I am on it.

Here is the menu as of today:

Hors d’oeuvre:
Shrimp
Antipasto

Main Course:
Lasagna
Roast Beef Marinated in a Red Wine marinade and cooked slowly on the grill
A Potato Dish
Green Beans with Olive Oil & Garlic
Tossed salad

Dessert:
Canolies
Cookie Trays
Wedding Cake

This is looking good…I am sure I will change this befor the 14th.

Looking at a new PDA

Got all the Linux servers upgraded…I love Linux in the respect that I can do upgrades on the fly and not have to reboot the servers. Been looking for a new PDA that I will use for just about everything. I have decided to get the Sharp SL-5500. It’s Linux based, has a command prompt, TCP/IP stack, takes a wireless card (wich is good for me since we are adding a WLAN here at the office in the next few weeks.), nice color screen and a built in keyboard.
